In reaction to a solid education in math and science, I desired something more expressive. My curiosity led to film, dance, and art classes to survey the abundant creative landscape of Los Angeles. Soon after, my attention was divided between a well-respected talent agency and the Creative Department at Interscope Records. I assisted with auditions, callbacks, and voice-over copy. I witnessed the inner-workings of the record industry and observed the collision of music and art through album cover imagery, fashion photo shoots, and photographer portfolios. Both were great learning experiences that directed me to art school.
My education at CalArts has lead to some great and challenging opportunities. I've had limited edition, hand-painted shoes sold-out exclusively at Kitson and Lisa Kline Men on Robertson Blvd. For the past couple years, I've worked for Goldenvoice at the annual Coachella Valley Music & Arts festival in Production as part of the art department, decorating distinctively themed trailers backstage and completing works for many of my favorite muscial acts.
Projects that are not for a commercial purpose carry a different weight. I feel privileged to share the unique experience of growing up dealing with disability, cultural difference, and economic struggle. Proudly introduced and delicately cradled are basic themes of family, love, and loss that everyone can identify with. I appreciate heavy theory and philosophical exploits, but I maintain being accessible and available to audiences by offering instances from the distinct perspective my circumstances provide, appealing to a more fundamental response.
I am always in the process of exploring my practice; its look, feel, and context. My interest in biology and mechanics still exist, sprinkled throughout various aspects of my work.
